EASIGEN-DS project officially launched
A major step forward in the European landscape of genomic research was achieved on February 2025 with the official launch of the EASIGEN-DS project, an EU-funded initiative aimed at designing a cutting-edge European Research Infrastructure (RI) for advanced genomics technologies.
Coordinated by the Centro Nacional de Análisis Genómico (CNAG), EASIGEN-DS brings together a consortium composed of 13 leading genomics institutions, organised in national genomic nodes from 7 different countries and 4 expert partners contributing with complementary expertise beyond genomics. They are putting efforts together to create the foundations of EASIGEN, the RI that will provide access to state-of-the-art genomic technologies. The project plays a key role in strengthening the European Research Area, by designing an infrastructure that will support all European countries – particularly the widening ones – through training, standardized tools, and collaborative innovation with industry.
The project, which builds on the success of two previous EU infrastructure initiatives - ESGI and EASI-Genomics, aims to take a step forward in addressing the fragmented genomic sequencing capacity in Europe, keeping pace with the rapid evolution of the field, and responding to the growing demand for genomic analysis, which will contribute to a more competitive Europe.
The project is scheduled to run until end of January 2028 and has received funding of € 2.999.266,00 from the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation program under grant agreement No HORIZON-INFRA-2024-DEV-01.
